I’m so easily swayed when it comes to buying products
that have been recommended by bloggers, or stuff I see people raving about on Instagram…and a
fair few of the blogger-enabled buys I’ve made have been so disappointing! So
here are my thoughts…
La Roche Posay, Serozinc
I’ll start by saying that Caroline Hirons is my skincare
guru and her cheat sheets literally changed my life, however La Roche Posay
Serozinc is one Caroline Hirons recommendation that I cannot get on with. It
sounds like Serozinc would be perfect for my skin, I have oily skin and I
suffered with acne for 19 years so me and Serozinc should on paper be a match
made in heaven. I was so confident that this would be a wonder product that I
bought a double pack of the stuff! But I just don’t get it. It didn’t seem to
have any impact whatsoever on my skin, in fact, I just got annoyed waiting for
it to dry before I could moisturise. I tried using it a fair few times, but
nope, nothing. Maybe I’m using it wrong? I don’t know, maybe it’s just not for
me…but I am not one of those people who buys skincare for the sake of it. I have
to use products that actually work for me and once I find something that does
work, I stick with it for good.
So it’s a no from me for Serozinc!
Bioderma Micellar Water
Before I discovered Caroline Hirons and her amazing skincare
advice, I had a terrible skin care routine that consisted of Simple face wipes
and no moisturiser because I had oily skin (I am hanging my head in shame as I
type this!). So when I first discovered beauty blogs and kept reading about the
wonder product that was Bioderma micellar water, I had to buy it. I bought the
version that is for acne prone skin and was so excited to use it, it was going
to be the make up remover of my dreams. But it wasn’t. It was rubbish. It made
my skin red and left it feeling more sore than clean.
I know now the error of my ways and understand that hot
cloth cleansing is the only way to go for me, but I don’t even think this works
that well as a make-up remover. I sometimes still use it on my eyes if I have
heavy eye make-up on prior to double cleansing, but it just doesn’t remove
everything! Eyeshadow yes, eyeliner kind of, but it’s useless at getting
mascara off. Once the bottle is empty, I will definitely not be re-purchasing.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams
I actually really like the formula of the NYX matte lip
creams and I have the shade Amsterdam, a gorgeous red, that I absolutely love
and wear all the time. My bug bear with these is the nudey pink colours. I
purchased two on blogger recommendations that were supposed to be pinky, nudey,
soft, ‘your lips but better’ type shades and both of them are bright pink. In
case you’re wondering, its Milan and Antwerp that I purchased and neither are
right for me as an everyday pinky nude. The packaging is very misleading if you’re
after an everyday shade!
So my beef with these is not the formula, or the price (at
£5.99 these are amazing value!) it’s just the shade range and the misleading
shades on the tubes. Pfft.
Hylamide Primer
This primer was supposed to end all my shiny t-zone woes in
one purchase. I read a few blogger reviews about this being the primer to end
all primers for oily, shiny skinned girls like me. When I went to purchase,
there was 1/3 off at Look Fantastic and I was so giddy…I was buying a wonder
product and it was reduced! Bargain! I used it as soon as it arrived and I was
gutted to see an oily nose come lunchtime. This just doesn’t work for me. It
didn’t do any of the magic blurring that other bloggers described and it
certainly didn’t prevent the oiliness on my nose. I’m not keen on the texture
of this either, it feels like glue when applying and then disappears to that
silicone feeling pretty quickly. I still sometimes use this for work, just to
use it up, but I definitely won’t be re-purchasing. (Don’t feel too sorry for
me, I discovered Mac’s Prep & Prim Skin Visage around the time that I
bought the Hylamide primer via a free sample and it was love at first use. Full size purchased
immediately and my oily, shiny nose is no more!).
Maybe I should now do a post on blogger recommendations that
have been amazing…you know, to balance out being quite the negative Nelly in
this post!
